Dear Diary,
We completed another trip around the sun. I was incredibly blessed to be able to spend my birthday in Maui this year.
You might remember that I love watching the sun rise. Sunrise is always a powerful experience for me and this year I was able to watch the sunrise over Haleakalā…the house of the sun. Watching the sky turn from black, purple, red, orange, yellow and finally sunrise was so spiritual. Hearing the chants thanking the gods for the blessings, praising the sun and being able to have a grateful and open heart was beautiful. Being on Haleakalā above the clouds and feeling so small yet limitless is an unforgettable experience. As the sun rose I also thanked the gods, universe and whatever is out there for my health and new opportunities in life. Watching with other people isn’t quite the same as being alone but it was a welcome change. This year I was able to spend my morning with Jimmy, my cousin Marie and our neighbors Scott & Tella. We left our resort at 3 am for the 5:48 sunrise.
Every June and July I get constant emails for a free birthday perk or treat. The best one of my entire life was yesterday getting free admission into the park! All 5 of us will never forget yesterday and it was all for free! The best things in life really are free…

After the sunrise we all went to one of my favorite restaurants and everyone wore shirts with my face on them saying, “She checked her 🥥🥥 and beat breast cancer” All day they were asked about their shirts and I received so many congratulations from random strangers. It really was a good day.
In other news, I was able to find another job before the end of June and I start as soon as we get back to the mainland. I will be supporting the chief engineering officer of a late stage start up. I’m back to eng…it’s not exactly where I want to be but my new boss seems great. She’s also former Google and has taken a couple of her old teammates with her. It will be nice to have someone with similar thought processes as I do. This role will also give me the opportunity to grow because I’ll be the senior ea on my time, the other eng eas will be dotted line to me. I will not be managing them but I will have the opportunity to run my own team meetings with them, share whatever I’m able to from a higher level and mentor them. I will also be providing feedback come review time. This is something I have wanted the opportunity to do for awhile. I see myself as a career ea with no intention of pivoting to a new role.
I still have hope a certain exec I worked with at my most recent role is able to take me along for his next role. I would love to work that individual for the rest of my career if I’m able. But until that happens I will do my best at my new company and learn as much as I can.
I have so much more to say but I’m also in Maui and don’t want to miss another minute of this….G
